The cozy lecture room aboard the luxurious Delfin II

On two very special 4-day Peruvian Amazon cruises in 2017 aboard the beautiful Delfin II, guests will have the pleasure of a series of special presentations that explore topics tied intimately to the Amazon River and its surrounding geographical region, given by special guest lecturer, the French ethnohistorian Dr. Jean-Jacques Decoster. Normally this pleasure would cost passengers an extra $100, but Rainforest Cruises are including the cost in our regular cruise price!

Dr. Decoster is a renowned professor of Inca history and specialist in Andean ethnology at the National University of San Antonio Abad in Cusco, Peru. He has studied Andean cultures for over 25 years and earned his Ph.D. at Cornell University. Dr. Decoster also serves as the Director of the Machupicchu Casa Concha Museum in Cusco which exhibits pieces excavated during the National Geographic- and Yale-sponsored 1912 Machu Picchu expedition, and also serves as Honorary Consul to Peru on behalf of France.

On each special departure, Dr. Decoster will present three lectures selected for their relevance to the culture, history and geography of the Amazon. Following each of his lectures, Dr. Decoster will be available for individual and group discussion. The three lectures will be on the following topics:

  • “Incas and chunchos: Relation between the Andes and the Amazon through myth”
  • “Between literature and hell: the rubber boom in history and fiction”
  • “Ethnicity and the creation of indigenous identity in Latin America”

Dr. Decoster has a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring guests during these special cruising experiences. His publications focus on the cultural anthropology of the Andes and explore the relationships between native groups, their environment, and the socioeconomic status of indigenous communities in the region.

Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the Amazon with Dr. Jean-Jacques Decoster! This offer is valid for NEW bookings only and subject to availability. Prices quoted are based on double occupancy. Hurry, cabins are going fast!
