5-Day Pacaya Samiria Cruise

The Delfin II's four-night cruise departs from Nauta, a small riverside port upstream from Iquitos. Spend your full days sailing up the Marañon River and into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where there are plenty of excursions to enjoy this unique environment.

The wildlife of the reserve is one of the most complete and varied in the Amazon Rainforest of South America, and you will have a chance to spot monkeys dashing through the trees, sloths enjoying their meals high in the trees, and fishing for piranhas!

Please note that the itinerary below is dependent on the river water level, weather conditions, wildlife behavior, and accessibility to locations, so may vary. All times indicated are approximate, and are also subject to change.

Iquitos - City Tour- Nauta - Delfin II - Amazon Birthplace

Arrive in Iquitos

Our crew will be expecting your arrival at the airport, from where you'll hop aboard our comfortable private vehicle as we begin a panoramic tour of Iquitos city, with a tasty lunchbox provided.

After the tour we will travel by paved road to the city of Nauta about an hour's drive away. Along the way, you will see vibrant "terra firma" (non-flooded forest) and various aspects of daily jungle life. Upon reaching Nauta you will enjoy a VIP greeting at our private port along the shores of the Marañon River where the Delfin II awaits you.

Embarkation & Orientation
Arrive to Nauta port. Nauta is a small riverside town on the banks of the Marañon River and was the first city founded in the department of Loreto. Once we reach Nauta, you will enjoy a VIP greeting at our private port along the shores of the Marañon River where the vessel awaits you.

Aboard Delfin II, you will be served by the qualified staff who will introduce you to your exquisite and cozy suite, specially equipped with all the amenities for the experienced traveler as yourself. Orthopedic beds, pure cotton sheets, pillows of 100% pure natural latex, cotton bathrobes, air conditioning, and private bathroom with Spanish style hot water showers.

While the Delfin II begins its initial navigation, you will enjoy the most fantastic panoramic views from the elegantly outfitted outdoor observation area located on our second deck. Our bartender will be waiting to serve you with an exotic cocktail made with regional fruits and pisco, the beloved national brandy liquor of Peru. Then, your naturalist guide will give you an overview of your journey's schedule, activities, route, highlights, wildlife and vegetation to keep your eye out for, geographical and historical background, and other useful details.

Yacapana Island - The Birthplace of the Amazon 

As we begin sailing downstream, we will pass by Yacapana Island. Here we can see the confluence of the Ucayali and Maranon, the birthplace of the mighty Amazon River. 


Your first sumptuous Amazonian dinner awaits! After dinner we invite you to the second deck were you can enjoy stargazing while we cruise in to the depths of the Amazon Rainforest.

Belluda Caño Creek - Dorado River

We recommend getting up early to appreciate one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun.

7:00 am. Breakfast – Buffet

8:00 am. Belluda Caño Creek
Early today, you will head for this spectacular tributary spot within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve in our skiffs where you will also experience an unforgettable encounter with gray and pink river dolphins. As well, the day's birds will be out and active, flying gracefully across the Amazon skies.

11:00 am. Return to Delfin II & Lunch

Before your afternoon activities, there is relaxation time for you to spend as desired, in the comfort of your spacious suite, or enjoying the luxurious social areas of the vessel. 

3:30 pm. Dorado River

This afternoon on the Dorado river, you will see abundant wildlife and nature in all of its exuberance while we search for the Amazon River’s transitional forest specialties such as snail kites, festive parrots, endangered scarlet macaws, olive spotted hummingbirds, Amazonian parrotlets and wood creepers, among others. Try your hand at piranha fishing as well during sunset. When the night shift strikes, you’ll encounter a whole new world of adventure as your guide takes you on a night safari in search of caiman alligators and night birds.

Oh no, not another gourmet extravaganza! Dinner is served on board for your delectation.

Pacaya River - Ucayali River

7:00 am. Breakfast - Buffet

After breakfast we will have reached our main goal, the Pacaya River at the very heart of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Peru’s largest protected area with a mean annual rainfall of nearly 3,000 millimeters, by far the largest protected wetland reserve in the world. Filled with lakes, palm swamps, and streams, the reserve becomes a flooded forest in the rainy season and is sure to be one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit. You will also have the chance to swim in one of the pristine Amazon lagoons in this wonderful region!

10:30 am. Return to Delfin II & Lunch
Before your afternoon activities there is relaxation time for you to spend as desired, in the comfort of your spacious suites, or the luxurious social areas of the vessel. 

3:30 pm.  Ucayali River

Later in the day you will experience even more diversity in the Amazon River Basin. This afternoon we will venture up the Ukayali River and explore several small creeks and tributaries known as some of the best areas for fishing. Be on the lookout for squirrel monkeys feeding in the treetops at the edge of the river. 

6:30 pm. Back aboard the Delfin II
Afford yourself some well deserved relaxation time before dinner.

8:00 pm. Dinner

Yarapa River - Puerto Miguel Village - Fundo Casual - Nauta Caño Creek

7:00 am. Breakfast – Buffet

A feature of breakfast on the Delfin I is the local, exotic fruit, and the delicious juices made from them.

8:00 am. Yarapa River & Puerto Miguel Village

This morning you will have the chance to explore the Yarapa's black river waters and discover this mysterious and bountiful destination aboard our aluminum skiffs. Marvel at the fantastic diversity of flora and fauna as you enjoy the myriad of bird species, colorful butterflies and other diverse insects, green iguanas and noisy troops of Squirrel and Capuchin Monkeys that are found here. Reaching Uvas Lagoon, so called for the fruit that grows wild on the shores, with a bit of luck, you will see Pink River Dolphin, which often feed in these waters. 

Next, you will visit the community of Puerto Miguel to meet local villagers who have called Amazonia their home for generations. You may step into a typical schoolhouse where the children will be very happy to have visitors, and then stop by an area to see the women of this community who have a most amazing arts & craft market. 

12:30 am. Return to Delfin II & Lunch

Before your afternoon activities, there is relaxation time for you to spend as desired, in the comfort of your spacious suite, or enjoying the luxurious social areas of the vessel. 

3:30 pm. Fundo Casual

We start the afternoon in one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. The walk at Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on terra firme (non-flooded forest) where your guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. Be sure to keep an attentive eye open for spotting surprises!

5:30 pm. Nauta Caño Creek

Later in the afternoon, we will explore Nauta Caño Creek and its various delights via skiff. Your guide will point out animals such as the slow moving sloths, various bird species, and perhaps even squealing monkeys! If you wish, you can also kayak through the calm waters this afternoon, skimming the riverbanks on your own to play your own game of “I spy”. As night falls, our guides will take you on another night safari. 

8:00 pm. Return to Delfin II & Farewell Dinner

Leaving behind the wildlife, you continue enjoying our service, as a world class traveler deserves. Tonight our chef treats you to a grilled farewell dinner, including fresh salads, grilled vegetables, rich sauces, and wonderful combinations of different types of meat.

The talented staff will delight you with some live music before bed.

Nauta - Manatee Rescue Center - Iquitos

Disembarkation in Nauta

With heavy hearts, the staff will wish you farewell as you begin your departure. At the port of Nauta we disembark at our private dock, where ground crew will be waiting to take you by our private vehicle back to the city of Iquitos, about 95 kilometers journey by paved road. 

Manatee Rescue Center

On the way to Iquitos Airport, we visit the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals, where we can learn more about this peaceful, endangered species, the work being done to protect them ... and possibly help in the feeding of rescued baby manatees!

Iquitos Airport

Our staff will be on hand to help you with your luggage and check in at Crnl. FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport in Iquitos. The return flight will take you directly to the city of Lima, the capital of Peru. At the security gate, your guide and Delfin crew will say goodbye.
