This short three-day 'Express' cruise is ideal for those short on time who want to get a taste of the wonders of the Amazon in the comfort of a unique schooner vessel. Enjoy rich Amazonian cuisine in the panoramic restaurant, and plenty of relaxation in comfortable cabins or well-appointed public areas.
Explore the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the largest river archipelago in the world, fish for piranha on Lake Januari, encounter pink dolphins, search for caiman and other creatures on a night safari and experience the famous Meeting of the Waters spectacle, all in just 3 days on this great highlights cruise.
Owing to the natural acids in the river water, mosquitoes are much less of an omnipresence as elsewhere in Amazonia.
The itinerary below is dependent on the river water level, weather conditions, wildlife behavior, and accessibility to locations, so may vary.
Day 1: MONDAY
Depart Manaus - Anavilhanas Archipelago
After meeting at 13.30pm in the Tropical Manaus Lobby, you will be transfered to the nearby Marina Aguas Claras and the awaiting Desafio, your floating hotel for the next two nights. We start sailing bound for the "Tres Bocas", located in the archipelago of Anavilhanas, the largest river archipelago in the world.
As we sail, the multilingual naturalist guide will host a “Welcome to the Amazon” briefing highlighting the broad spectrum of life in this unique region. Throughout your cruise the guide will assist in the identification of the flora/fauna, provide a historical framework and enrich your ecological understanding of this exotic destination, and indeed the natural world.
Dinner on board.
In the evening, we will enjoy a pleasant excursion by motorized canoe to explore the archipelago's lakes, islands, creeks and flooded forests, an ideal opportunity to see and hear the remarkable sights and sounds of the jungle.
Day 2: TUESDAY
Meeting of the Waters
This morning we'll get up with the dawn to admire the sunrise in the forest and the birds singing in all their glory.
We return to the ship for breakfast and sail to a local village named 'Acajatuba'. On the way, we'll stop at the floating station 'Recanto dos Botos' to feed the famous giant Amazon fish known as the 'Pirarucu' or 'Arapaima'. We'll also get the chance to interact with the pink dolphins, remarkable creatures and a real highlight.
Still in Acajatuba, after a pleasant canoe ride, we'll stop inland for an interesting jungle trek to explore the fauna and flora of the region.
We return to the Desafio for lunch on board.
In the afternoon we begin navigating along the Negro River towards the confluence with the Solimões River, the spectacular “Meeting of the Waters” phenomenon where the different colored Negro and Solimoes rivers meet to form the great Amazon River.
The cruise continues to Lake Janauari for another exciting experience - a chance to try our hands (not literally!) at fishing the piranha, the dreaded Amazonian fish.
Dinner on board.
After dinner, we head out on a canoe ride along the nearby streams and channels in search of caimans and other nocturnal animals with flashlights.
Day 3: WEDNESDAY
Return to Manaus
After another tropical breakfast, we head out on a morning excursion to see the beautiful, giant Amazonian water lilies, and get another opportunity to explore the Negro River.
We return on board and start the return trip to Manaus, arriving at 11.00 a.m. back at the Marina.
- Please note that all cruise itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s discretion.
- Passengers should also be aware that animal sightings cannot be guaranteed due to the unpredictability of wildlife behavior.
