Jungle Discovery Amazon Cruise

A Superior Amazon Riverboat Cruising to Tres Fronteras

Jungle Discovery Amazon Cruise

A Superior Amazon Riverboat

Jungle Discovery PeruA wonderful opportunity to enjoy the magic of the tropical rainforest on board the Jungle Discovery, a first class flotel operating out of Iquitos and offering both set departures while often available for charter.

The 15-cabin Jungle Discovery offers fantastic itineraries on the Amazon River and its tributary rivers, including to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, or to Leticia on the border with Brazil and Colombia (or back). The choice is yours.

With any of these itineraries, extraordinary adventure awaits you: amazing biodiversity and exuberant wildlife; exotic landscapes; a variety of fascinating indigenous communities dotted along the river banks.

The Jungle Discovery offer its passengers direct contact with nature, while also ensuring maximum comfort. The service and extensive knowledge of the jungle guarantee an unforgettable trip. On all our expeditions we are accompanied by a qualified naturalist and local guide.

Jungle Discovery Tours4-Day Iquitos - Leticia Cruise Itinerary

This voyage follows in the footsteps of Che Guevara on a classic route from the isolated jungle city of Iquitos in Peru to Tres Fronteras, where the borders of Peru, Colombia and Brazil meet. From here, you can continue down the Amazon to Manaus or even the Atlantic Ocean, on a Brazilian vessel or flight. Alternatively, there are flights to Bogota, Colombia's capital city and transport hub, from Leticia airport.

The Jungle Discovery makes the return journey to Iquitos, so you can stay on board, or join the tour in Leticia.

Please note that the itinerary below is dependent on the river water level, weather conditions, wildlife behavior, and accessibility to locations, so may vary.

Day 1: Lima - Iquitos - Amazon River - Yanamono
(Lunch & Dinner)

Domestic flight from Lima to Iquitos.

Transfer from the airport to Iquitos and City tour of the historical sites from the era of the rubber boom.

Afterwards, we board the Jungle Discovery, settle into our cabins and meet our guides and fellow passengers.

During lunch, we start sailing downriver on the Amazon River.

In the afternoon, we visit Yanamono and a typical trapiche - a sugarcane mill where we enjoy a glass of fresh sugarcane juice.

Once back on board, we continue sailing downriver.

Welcome cocktail, dinner and briefing of the next days.

Day 2: Ampiyacu River - Bora Village - Pevas Village - Sisita River
(All meals)

Early this morning, we go bird watching by small canoe on the Ampiyacu River.

We have breakfast on return to the boat, after which we visit the Bora indigenous community and learn more about their culture, with the possibility to buy their handicrafts.

Back on board and afterwards we visit Pevas Village, famous for being home to the art gallery of Francisco Grippa, who is famous for his stylized forest paintings.

Lunch on board and in the afternoon, a walk in the forest along the Sisita River where the guides explain about the fauna and flora of the area.

After dinner we go on a night expedition to observe caimans and other nocturnal animals.

Day 3: Paranaquiro - Piranha Fishing - Caballo Cocha Village

Breakfast followed by a walk through the forest to the small village of Paranaquiro, a community who still lives in harmony with the forest.

Later in the morning, we try our hand at sport fishing for piranhas in small canoes in a black water lake.

Lunch and siesta while we continue sailing downriver.

In the afternoon, we visit the missionary village of Caballo Cocha, situated on the lake of the same name.

Dinner and optional night excursion.

Day 4: Santa Rosa Island
(All meals)

In the morning we arrive at Santa Rosa Island, on the border of Peru, Colombia and Brazil. There are numerous options for onward travel in this three frontiers region.

Here our services end.
