Reina de Enin Amazon Cruise
Comfortable Adventure at Budget Prices in the Bolivian Amazon
Explore the little-visited Bolivian Amazon on a unique catamaran: Photos
La Reina de Enín Amazon Riverboat
Travelling on a traditionally-styled purpose-built riverboat, this exploratory voyage delves deep into the heart of the Bolivian Amazon rainforest, travelling along two rivers with different characteristics—the Río Ibare and the Río Mamoré—for better rainforest experience.
During the journey you will discover three kinds of tropical forest—the riverside forest, the savannas in Moxos, the savannas of palm trees, all intermixed with wetlands and islands of evergreen humid forest—while observing diverse and fascinating plant and animal life along the way.
Experience the jungle on foot, listening to the calls of colorful birds and perhaps howler monkeys calling overhead, then swim off deserted beaches and lagoons in water as pure as rain. You will also have the opportunity to visit the homes of deep forest settlers to learn about their culture and the important survival skills that are passed from generation to generation.
Built in 2000, the beautifully-appointed Flotel Reina de Enín is specifically designed to offer comfort while exploring the farthest reaches of this natural paradise. The crew members all grew up in the rainforest and can offer first-hand accounts of life there, while the on board guides are trained locals and indigenous people who are happy to share their knowledge of Amazon ecology, flora and fauna with you.
4-Day Bolivian Amazon Cruise Itinerary
Please note that the itinerary below is dependent on the river water level, weather conditions, wildlife behavior, and accessibility to locations, so may vary.
Day 1: La Paz – Trinidad – Queen Enin Flotel
(Lunch & Breakfast)
Upon arrival at the airport in Trinidad, we welcome you and make the land transfer to Puerto Varador (16 km / 10 miles west) to board the Queen Enin Flotel.
Having settled in to your cabin, we navigate a system of lagoons to the River Mamore, Bolivia's largest. First encounter with the river dolphins escorting us, as we make our progress along the waterways.
In the afternoon fishing, swimming in the river and animal watching.
Day 2 & 3: Queen Enin Flotel
(All meals)
The 'Reina' is the starting point for discovering all the different streams and rivers, forests and communities in the area. Side excursions by canoe and on foot for great wildlife viewing: several species of monkeys, turtles and pink river dolphins, rheas, anteaters, sloths, capybaras, caimans. Amazonian birdlife includes harpy eagles, several species of parrots and macaws, horned screamers, egrets, and numerous other birds including the extremely rare Blue-Throated Macaw. Go piranha fishing!
Most of the action is on the river banks and we guarantee many great sightings and unique photo opportunities.
Meet Mojeña and Yurakare people who make a living from the sustainable use of the rainforest. Participate in daily activities of the community as you hike in the forest, with numerous opportunities to see mammals and birdlife.
The Reina de Enín project has trails through open forest, closed rainforest and open-pampas, as well as a number of canoe excursions. The guides are very experienced with wildlife, trees and plants.
Experience the daily life and learn about the cultural richness of the indigenous people, take part in their daily activities and learn about their artisan crafts.
Day 4: Queen Enin Flotel – Trinidad
(Breakfast)
This morning, we visit Chuchini, a bird sanctuary and private protected area, where we can see the dawn chorus of hundreds of macaws and parrots.
Our last day’s sailing takes us up the Ibare River to the port of Loma Suarez, from where you are transported to Trinidad airport, for your flight to La Paz, or elsewhere.

Flotel Reina de Enín
La Reina de Enín Amazon riverboat, a colorfully-painted catamaran built in 2000, is your simple but comfortable Budget Class base from which to explore Bolivia’s tropical rainforest. We consider the riverboat as a floating jungle lodge ... or 'flotel'!
The lodging on board the riverboat is roughly equivalent to a three-star (Bolivian) hotel/lodge. There are 14 cabins, most with air conditioning and all with private bathroom and windows facing the river. They are roomy, clean and comfortable, if not luxurious. Nonetheless, most passengers are pleasantly surprised at the quality of the accommodation.
The Reina de Enín (26 x 12 x 10m = 85 x 39 x 33ft) has two iron hulls, in a catamaran style, holding three decks.
The first deck holds the cabin accommodation with wide aisles and open air corridors.
The second deck houses an enclosed dining room, and lounge/bar area. There are two terraces with seating on each side on the second deck.
There is also an observation area on the third (top) deck so it is really easy to enjoy the remote Amazon wilds from the comfort of the Reina.
There is a small removable swimming pool with an iron net that enables safe bathing in the river.
The Reina travels with 4 smaller boats (skiffs) whose main function is to provide transfers, short explorations of the rivers, and small group excursions in search for good wildlife viewing and fishing/swimming places. They allow access to small tributaries and lagoons to which the large Reina doesn't have access.
