Remi– Travel Specialist
It was a 3-months backpacking trip through Iran and Central Asia, back in 2002, that initiated Remi’s true passion for travelling and adventure. Within one year, he returned to these fascinating and culturally-rich countries on the former Silk Road, only this time in the capacity of Tour leader for a Dutch travel company.
In the years that followed, he travelled from Moscow to Beijing on the great Trans-Siberian Railway, flew in a lightweight plane over the Victoria falls in Zimbabwe, stood eye-to-eye with wild elephants in the Okavango Delta of Botswana and spent the night in former palaces of the Maharajas of Rajasthan in India. Eventually, these travels led him to the basecamp of Mount Everest, in 2004, where he met with his now Peruvian wife.
This is where started his connection with one of the most history-rich and diverse countries in South America. Initially together with his wife, and now also with his two children, Wayra and Yaku (meaning water and wind in Quechua) Remi has visited several of the many beautiful attractions Peru has to offer, including the impressive Colca Valley with its gigantic Condors, the spectacular high-altitude Lake Titicaca with its traditional floating villages, the world-famous and impressive ruins of the ancient Incan citadel Machu Picchu near Cusco, as well the enigmatic Amazon River more recently. Many more Peruvian destinations remain on his bucket-list, such as a flight above the mysterious Nazca lines.
Before settling permanently in Peru, Remi lived for almost ten years in Nepal, mostly being involved with the country’s ongoing peace process. However, his connection with the travel and tourism industry always lingered on and when the opportunity came to work with Rainforest Cruises he did not have to think twice.

Not too long ago, I was fortunate to go on a river cruise on the Peruvian section of the Amazon River with the luxurious Aria Amazon of Aqua Expeditions. As it has been described in many international travel magazines, the Aria Amazon is truly at the top of luxury cruises currently on offer in Peru. Below I share my personal experience cruising the might Amazon River aboard the 4-Day Aria Amazon cruise.
