Samael– Travel Specialist
Being raised in a destination resort in the mountains of Colorado, Sam has grown up surrounded by tourism, fostering a life long passion for adventure and travel. It also led to an active life with a love for the outdoors. Be it skiing, hiking, mountain biking, or climbing, he finds constant joy in getting out and seeing the world. From a family that encouraged exploration, he had the travel bug from early on. This led to young backpacking excursions through Costa Rica and Southeast Asia, full of trekking, rafting, surfing, and culinary adventures.
Later, while studying Anthropology at university, he focused on the Ainu of Northern Japan and the pre-Colonial civilizations of Peru. This, in addition to studying modern Japanese history and language, led to long trips through Japan, including three months in Nagoya and Kyoto. While Japan has been a strong draw for Sam, his lifelong fascination with Peru led him to South America in 2011, and he has been hooked ever since.
In his mind, the grand spectrum of climatic and cultural influence throughout South America begs for endless exploration: from the depths of Colca Canyon outside Arequipa to the absolute majesty of Machu Picchu, from desert beaches to Amazon rainforest, mesmerizing waterfalls to towering mountains; the offerings are countless and unique.
This fascination with South American adventure and culture has led him to work in the travel industry, where he can facilitate the sharing of this wonderful part of the world with others. While traveling through Peru, he met Matt, and after hearing of how much Matt enjoyed working with Rainforest Cruises, he jumped on an opportunity to join the team.

Samael's Expert Review:
Upon boarding, we were shown to our suite, where our luggage was waiting. After taking a little time to unpack and refresh, we met the rest of our cruise mates in the upper deck lounge for a safety briefing and formal introduction to our guides and cruise director. We spent a moment watching the passing sunset with fresh juices in hand, before heading to the dining room for our first of many gourmet dining experiences. The white glove service, free flowing wine, and carefully prepared Amazonian delicacies left everyone with smiling conversations, as we met some of our fellow travelers, discussing our coming adventures. After dinner, some made their way to their suites, and others stepped upstairs to the bar for a nightcap. Keep Reading...
