View From Brazil: Rio, Iguazu And The Jacare-Acu!

  |   Brazil

Here is a detailed review from Vivien Price of Port Talbot, South Wales in the UK who went on a Brazilian adventure with her friend Claire Huish, visiting vibrant Rio & the spectacular Iguazu Falls on a land tour before discovering the Amazon on their 5-day Jacare-Acu cruise:

'Hi Jonathan,

Sadly, we are home! I wish I could have stayed in Brazil. It is a wonderful, amazing country. We have had a fabulous time...

...The guides were lovely and helpful and the hotels were good, clean and well placed. Everywhere we stayed, the food was of good quality, plentiful and a good variety. Neither of us had any of the expected “tummy troubles” normally experienced on holidays in exotic locations.

Rio was great and the tours were good. We had to get up early a few times, but it was worth it as we missed all the crowds and huge queues that we could see forming after we arrived. I feel that we managed to see all the famous sites and yet had plenty of leisure time to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Copacabana was lovely but has to be the most crowded beach I have ever seen. Ipanema was much better and not far away there were the most gorgeous beaches, practically deserted. I could have spent a few days there just soaking up the sun...

However, we moved on to Iguazu. The most amazing waterfalls I have ever seen. This was followed by the most amazing hot chocolate drink I have ever tasted in a nearby tourist shop (pure melted chocolate, topped with fresh cream). We went out in the evening for a meal to a recommended restaurant and had a "gigantean" feast of amazing food. Next, a night in Manaus where we enjoyed a walk around the old town and had an ice cream while we watched the world go by.

The highlight of the holiday was the journey along the River Negro on the Jacare Acu. The boat was beautiful, the crew fantastic, food was lovely, plentiful and I can recommend the Passion fruit mousse. Delicious. Everyday we had a new kind of fresh fruit juice with meals. The cabins were clean, shower was good and the beds comfortable. The aircon was a blessing as it reached 38 degrees some days. There was also a relaxing sun deck with hammocks to lounge in and watch the scenery pass by and catch site of pink dolphins and monkeys, even a sloth.

Tiago the guide, Kleber the Captain and the other staff went out of their way to ensure everyone had a great time. We went on so many canoe outings and jungle walks I lost count. Swam several times a day in the river which was a warm as soup! Had a bonfire on a river beach, fished for piranha and Tiago caught an alligator with his bare hands whilst we were on a canoe trip in the dark! We went to quite a few waterfalls in the jungle and played in the lovely warm waters. The last day we got to see the pink dolphins up close near the base for the boat at Novo Airão.

I have had a wonderful holiday and amazing experiences which I will always remember and met some lovely people along the way. Thank you for organising it all. I will recommend your company to everyone.'
