View From The Peruvian Amazon - Amatista And Iquitos
We had a wonderful trip to the Peruvian Amazon. We had added this trip onto a tour in the Andes, which included 4 days hiking the Inca Trail. So relaxing on the riverboat was just what we needed (although they did keep us busy with a variety of things to do).
It was so interesting to compare/contrast the native lifestyles, climate, geography, and animals of these two areas. For a small country, Peru has amazing diversity!
The Amatista was a very comfortable riverboat. The air conditioned cabins were important to us to ensure a good night's sleep, but we spent most of the time when on board on the observation deck.
The crew were all very attentive, the food plentiful and tasty, and the singing wake-up call was a delight! The evening music provided by members of the crew was also entertaining.
Our guides were very knowledgable and through them we saw many animals and birds. We particularly enjoyed seeing sloths "in the wild" as well as the river dolphins.
We had one incredible experience: on one of our explorations, we saw a hawk that had gotten one wing tangled up in fishing line and was floundering in the water. Our guide was able to safely release him. It was terrific to see the hawk up close and we all felt as if we had a part in saving him.
I wanted to add that we enjoyed our time in Iquitos before the cruise (we had about 24 hours there). We really enjoyed staying at Casa Morey (your suggestion) - it was an interesting and comfortable place to stay and nicely located close to the Malecon. The staff was very helpful in many different ways. We strolled along the Malecon, had nice meals at two different restaurants there, and visited the Museum of Indigenous Cultures. Rainforest Cruises provided great service. I contacted you several times with various questions and you were always prompt to respond and helpful.
If we travel to South America again, we will definitely check out what Rainforest Cruises has to offer. Thank you for a terrific experience!
