Delfin III

Beautiful and affordable 5 star luxury in the heart of the Peruvian Rainforest.

Overview

For a luxury cruise, complete with plenty of pampering, soft adventure, and the beautiful landscapes of remote rainforest locations, look no further than the Delfin III. The 170-foot ship features 22 generously sized staterooms and welcomes up to 44 passengers. Your Relais Chateaux Delfin III Amazon cruise departs from Nauta on four and five-day routes.

Life Aboard The Delfin III

The Delfin III invites you to experience five-star luxury within the ecological paradise of the Amazon. The sun deck, on the upper deck, is the heart and soul of the ship. It will instantly become your go-to spot for sipping Peruvian coffee while listening to the jungle wake for the day and cooling off in the plunge pool.

When you are ready for some fun out of the sun, scoot over to the air-conditioned lounge. Sip a pisco sour at the bar while staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows, and come back later to participate in a Peruvian cooking class or a cultural performance. A visit to the spa for a massage, soothing avocado wrap, or coffee-cacao scrub is sure to delight.

No luxury holiday is complete without fine dining, and the Delfin III delivers. Feast on dishes created with roasted meats, tropical fruits, and fresh fish. Even with so many things happening aboard the ship, you may be tempted to pass hours away in your stateroom. Every room is impressively-sized and features panoramic windows, but the Owner’s Suites are standouts at 600-square-feet.

Excursions From Your Delfin III Cruise

Despite the highest levels of comfort available onboard, the magic of the Amazon will tempt you off of the boat for a wide range of optional excursions. All Delfin III Amazon cruises depart from Nauta and explore the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve on routes that vary depending on water levels. On the Nauta Caño Creek, search for silver-back tamarillo monkeys and sloths.

Disembark at Amazon National Park for a nature walk and naturist-led discussion of the rainforest’s medicinal plants. Visit with a local Shaman to learn about the local healing and spiritual traditions. There may also be opportunities to swim with dolphins, fish for piranhas at sunset, and kayak down calm creeks.

Supporting Local Economies With Beautiful Furnishings

While aboard the Delfin III, you will be surrounded by Peruvian artwork, décor, and furnishings. Handmade Peruvian textiles provide pops of color against the neutral hues of the ship. Ancient tools showcase the history of the region. Local craftwork, including hand-carved furniture and woven palm-leaf ceilings, creates a feeling of oneness with the rainforest. Staterooms and social areas are decorated with original contemporary art from the nation’s top artists and local villages.

This focus on local art, crafts, and history adds authenticity and beauty to the ship while also supporting local economies. And, if you fall in love with a piece of art and want a one-of-a-kind memory of your cruise aboard Delfin III, many of the items are available for purchase through the ship’s boutique.

The natural beauty and rich biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest are perfectly complemented by the sustainable hardwoods and comfortable luxury of the Delfin III. Appealing to a wide range of travelers, the Delfin III is waiting to welcome you aboard.

Las Palmas & Amazon Natural Park

AM: On your first morning with us, we recommend getting up early to appreciate one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Never does nature seem more bountiful than in the tropics, and early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun. The early morning hours are the best time of day to watch birds, observe their special displays and listen to their songs. We will jump on the skiffs and head to this area with large trees and old palm trees as well, these components favor the presence of several parrot species. This particular spot also has a great number of other birds of different species. We will look for the famous hoatzins nesting a few feet above the water, and perhaps a sloth or two of the three-toed kind.

PM: You will have the opportunity to have a nature walk to learn about medicinal plants. The Peruvian Amazon region is considered the largest pharmaceutical reserve in the world with 965 species of wild plants and 59 cultivated plant species that local people use to cure and prevent many illnesses. You will see that “Terra Firma” forest of a local ribereño is eye-opening to how far we have come in this day and age and a reflection of how simple yet rewarding life is for others.

After dinner, you will enjoy a Shamanism lecture from our guides.

Yanallpa & Dorado River

AM: Here in the Amazon Rainforest, we can have dry mornings with beautiful sunrises. This is all we need to have a successful pre-breakfast exploration of the forest! The early morning hours are the best time of day to watch birds, observe their special displays and listen to their songs. We will jump on the skiffs and head to the shores of the Ucayali River. This area is green with large trees and old palm trees as well, and these components favor the presence of several parrot species. This particular spot also has a great number of other birds of different species. Perhaps spot a large flock of red-bellied macaws, as well different types of raptors, woodpeckers, and swallows. If you are very lucky you will hear loud and distinctive sounds of blue and yellow macaws!

PM: We will look for the famous hoatzins nesting a few feet above the water, and perhaps a sloth or two of the three-toed kind. The Dorado River can also be home to troops of brown capuchin monkeys mixed up with squirrel monkeys. As the sun sets, we will aim to look for black and white caiman, fishing bats, and Noisy Nights Monkeys where you will encounter a whole new world of adventure.

Pacaya River & Magdalena

AM: The Pacaya River at the very heart of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Peru’s largest protected area with a mean annual rainfall of nearly 3,000 millimeters, by far the largest protected wetland reserve in the world. Filled with lakes, palm swamps, and streams, the reserve becomes a flooded forest in the rainy season and is sure to be one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit. You will also have the chance to explore one of the pristine Amazon lagoons in this wonderful region!

PM: Our skiff will speed along the main river to reach the narrower channels where we will explore the thick rainforest adjacent to the water. During our explorations, we will look for some of the more typical and iconic birds of the New World tropics, such as the lettered aracari toucan, the straight billed woodcreeper, and the white-eared jacamar. Later on, travel near Flor de Castaña, for an opportunity to swim among pink dolphins. If you are thinking Piranhas, as many people have in their minds when they think about the Amazon River! But don’t worry; the aggressiveness of this characteristic fish of the Amazon is extremely overrated.

Yarapa River & Fundo Casual

AM: Along the Yarapa River, you will get to explore this tributary intimately. Listen closely to the sounds from within the mysterious jungle. We travel downriver to this wide creek that leads to an attractive hidden lagoon. As we absorb the beauty of the landscape, we will have the chance to reflect on the wildlife. Hawks, terns, herons, and monkeys which are part of our everyday excursions are readily close by; in this area, we will notice many more inhabitants of the Amazon, the rivereños. People being an important part of this complex network only reinforce the fact that we are part of their lives and how our presence here and now could make a difference to the future of this magical land of the Incas. Look out for specific types of Monkeys like the pygmy marmoset, squirrel monkey, and our first Monk Saki. This medium-sized monkey with thick fur and bushy tail looks more like he is dressed for the Arctic than the Amazon.

PM: The walk at Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on terra firma (non-flooded forest) where your guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. Be sure to keep an attentive eye open for spotting surprises! It's almost unbelievable how with every step you find something along the way. Almost definitely Anaconda, Rainbow Boas, Tarantulas, Poison Frogs, and most recently porcupines have been spotted. This is one of the very few places in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve Amazon Rainforest where you will spot the ever so elusive 2-toed sloth.
