This six-day Amazon cruise combines the four-day Maguari and three-day Real Lower Amazon cruises (in that order), not only exploring the River Negro and visiting the incredible Anavilhanas Archipelago, but also the Amazonas River itself, transporting you to one of the most stunning regions of the Amazon rainforest, the Kings Lake.
On this complete Brazilian Amazon cruise we explore this winding river wilderness in daily excursions on small motorized boats that are ideal for the environment. On board, passengers can enjoy rich Amazonian cuisine in the panoramic restaurant, and plenty of relaxation in comfortable cabins or well-appointed public areas.
Owing to the natural acids in the river water of the River Negro, mosquitoes are much less of an omnipresence as elsewhere in Amazonia.
The itinerary below is dependent on the river water level, weather conditions, wildlife behavior, and accessibility to locations, so may vary.
Day 1: THURSDAY
Depart Manaus - Welcome to the Amazon
After meeting at 13.30pm in the Tropical Manaus Lobby, you will be transfered to the nearby Marina Aguas Claras and the awaiting Desafio, your floating hotel for the next 3 nights. We start sailing bound for the "Tres Bocas", located in the archipelago of Anavilhanas, the largest river archipelago in the world.
As we sail, the multilingual naturalist guide will host a “Welcome to the Amazon” briefing highlighting the broad spectrum of life in this unique region. Throughout your cruise the guide will assist in the identification of the flora/fauna, provide a historical framework and enrich your ecological understanding of this exotic destination, and indeed the natural world.
Dinner on board.
In the evening, we will enjoy a pleasant excursion by motorized canoe to explore the archipelago's lakes, islands, creeks and flooded forests, an ideal opportunity to see and hear the remarkable sights and sounds of the jungle.
Day 2: FRIDAY
Today we wake up early around 5.30 a.m. for a morning skiff excursion to admire the sunrise and the waking wildlife, especially the active birds and their melodious songs.
Return to the ship and breakfast.
Later we'll head out for a jungle walk to spot and observe the flora and fauna of the region with the help of our eagle-eyed guide.
Lunch will be served on board whilst we continue cruising towards the indigenous community of Terra Preta, who we will visit to learn about the lifestyle and way of life of the remarkable tribe.
We return to the Desafio and navigate towards Jaraqui' village. By motorized canoes, after a pleasant river expedition, we'll hop out for another fascinating jungle trek in a different rainforest setting.
Dinner on board.
Day 3: SATURDAY
Meeting of the Waters
Breakfast is served on board as we sail to a local village named 'Acajatuba'.
On the way, we stop at the floating station 'Recanto dos Botos' to interact with the perennially smiling pink dolphins, and feed the famous giant 'Pirarucu' fish, known as the cod of the Amazon.
Lunch on board.
This afternoon we navigate along the Negro River towards the confluence with the Solimões River until reach the “meeting of waters”, where the Negro and Solimoes rivers meet to form the great Amazon River.
The cruise continues to 'Janauari' Lake for another exciting experience, fishing for piranha, the dreaded Amazonian fish.
Dinner on board.
After dinner, we enjoy a nighttime canoe safari along the streams in search of caimans and other nocturnal animals with flashlights.
Day 4: SUNDAY
Exploring the River
After another tropical breakfast, we head out on a morning excursion to see the beautiful, giant Amazonian water lilies, and get another opportunity to explore the Negro River.
After a brief stop in Manaus to say goodbye to those passengers disembarking (those only doing the 4-day Maguari cruise) and say hello to those new passengers doing the 3-day Real Lower Amazon cruise, we will continue sailing downstream and lunch will be served on board.
We make our way onto the waters of the Amazonas River, and continue our expedition towards the Kings Lake, located in the city of Varzea Careiro of the Amazon, a place whose economy is based on artisanal fishing and agriculture.
Upon our arrival at the Kings Lake, dinner will be served in this stunning natural setting.
After dinner, we head out for a motorized canoe ride to explore the region at night in search of caiman and other nocturnal animals with flashlights.
Day 5: MONDAY
Discovering the Lake
After a hearty breakfast on board, we depart to visit the King's Lake's local community. This is a chance to meet some of the indigenous people of the region and learn about their traditional way of life and unique culture.
Lunch will be served on board while we navigate to another side of the lake.
This afternoon we'll have the chance to spot the multiple species of birds of the region, and also get the opportunity to try our hand at some exciting piranha fishing!
After a farewell dinner on board, we head out for a night safari excursion by canoe to explore the lake looking for the nocturnal animals that call this wonderfully peaceful place their home.
Day 6: TUESDAY
Unforgettable Sunrise - Return to Manaus
Early this morning we take a boat ride to admire the Amazonian sunrise and the birds’ awakening.
We return to the boat for breakfast and begin our return trip to Manaus, arriving at 11.00 a.m. back at the Marina where we reluctantly disembark and our Amazonian adventure comes to an end.
- Please note that all cruise itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s discretion.
- Passengers should also be aware that animal sightings cannot be guaranteed due to the unpredictability of wildlife behavior.
