What Is There to Know About the Anouvong?

You might be wondering where the name Anouvong comes from. As with most Asia-based vessels, there is a story to be heard behind the title of the cruise. In this particular case the Anouvong gets its namesake from the former monarch of the Kingdom of Vientiane, King Anouvong. King Anouvong was widely adored and cherished for his bravery and vigor in fighting for Laos’ precious independence. Therefore it is only fitting that a boat as beautiful and pristine as this should claim its title paying homage and tribute to the last beloved Laotian king.

This unique river vessel is designed with two style inspirations. French-colonial and Laotian detailing is what gives this ship its character and flair. With just 10 suites in total this cruise is rather intimate and has been wonderfully built with your care and comfort in mind every step of the way. The spacious deluxe staterooms provide sliding doors to romantic French-style balconies where you can step out and enjoy undisturbed views of the dazzling riverscape. Two signature suites include such further luxuries as personal jacuzzis and huge couples vanity areas. Both of these aforementioned suites are styled uniquely and addressed by their own personal names; the Nam Ming Suite and the Nam Khan Suite. Each of these captivating quarters are decorated and furnished to perfection, with details going as far as hand carved Laotian patterns in the woodwork and hand-crafted mosaics on the walls. The bathroom in every suite is set to be equipped with drop-dead gorgeous walk-in showers, art-deco vanity areas plus luxurious toiletries. You can bet there is individually controlled air conditioning too, which you can alter just as easily as your internal bluetooth sound system equipped with built-in loudspeakers.

As you branch out from the glorious Anouvong’s personal confinements you will get to explore a world of beautiful amenities. A welcoming lounge is prepared for cruisers to use at all hours of the day in addition to being used for group lectures, demonstrations on board and even the occasional cinema screening. The entire stern of the ship is occupied by three soothing treatment rooms, collectively known as the Bodhi Spa area. Take a load off and lounge here between excursions - the staff will offer you a multitude of therapies with the extra option of adjoining two of the private rooms to create harmonious couples sessions.

Travelers that adore spending their time outside will not be disappointed either as you are beckoned towards the comfortable sun loungers on the ships’ top deck. From here you can marvel at the picturesque views whilst sipping on a cocktail, all before heading down to the impressive dining hall for dinner. Huge full-sized windows either side of the room provide lighting and fantastic scenery as you enjoy carefully curated dishes morning, noon and night. Deep brown wood is used to ground the expressive interior design, as two carved Buddhist-inspired statues adorn the opposing sides of the room. The internal finish is complete with intricate gold features adding dashes of excited color to the timeless elegance of the Anouvong cruise.

What to Expect When You Choose the Anouvong

As you climb aboard this first-class vessel you should prepare yourself for the very best that Laos has to offer. Setting off on one of four different itineraries, you may choose to stay on the boat for an option of either 4, 8 or 10 days in total. 4-day itineraries may be the shortest but they are certainly not underwhelming! For those on a tighter schedule you will still have the possibility to visit ancient Buddhist sites, scenic riverscapes, the Thai-Lao border and known UNESCO World Heritage site Luang Prabang. Additional highlights include the spiritual Pak Ou cave, Pakbeng’s elephant sanctuary and visits to local riverside villages. We told you it wasn’t disappointing.

Even though less days certainly doesn’t mean less satisfaction, for travelers looking for the extended experience you can consider the Laotian Serendipity cruise. Depending on whether your journey is upstream or downstream, this itinerary will take you across Laos over a massive 8 or 10 days. Taking more time to explore you can really become enchanted with what the Anouvong has to offer. Widening the scope over an extended time period adds extra sensational elements to the cruise such as; extensive guided tours in ancient Luang Prabang, inspecting the wonders of the natural Khao Cave and admiring the breathtaking turquoise waters of Kuang Si Falls
