The Double Tree Hilton Hotel Iquitos: Expert Review
When visiting Iquitos there is pretty much one and only standout option, where hotels are concerned, and that is The DoubleTree by Hilton hotel. You will undoubtedly know the Hilton brand for its huge, worldwide portfolio of hotels and resorts across the globe. From their 5,757 properties, this one in Iquitos is a must stay.
This luxury establishment is located a short 9km away from Iquitos' airport. Travelers can take pre-arranged transport or motor taxi, and the journey lasts a decent 25 minutes from door to door. Surrounding the Double Tree by Hilton is Iquitos' well known Plaza de Armas. This suburban area is the centre of the city, containing a mixture of hotel residences, restaurants and cultural landmarks such as St. John the Baptist's Cathedral. There are many things to do in Iquitos. The Cathedral of Iquitos is definitely worth a little sneak peek; It has stood since its completion in 1924 until now, with its distinctive Neo-Gothic style. A classic urban icon, it was classified as cultural heritage in Peru in 1996. Walking a few footsteps from the Hilton's lobby you will find the stunning Casa de Fierro restaurant where you can taste test multiple Amazonian-Peruvian style dishes. They even have vegan options! You will truly enjoy the experience here as the bartenders fix you up your perfect Pisco-based cocktail inside the quaintly decorated dining room. The building has a full history of its own; you can read more about it here. As for reaching our selection of fantastic Peruvian Amazon cruises, if you choose to stay at the Hilton Hotel before your embarkation (which I fully recommend) then you will be an average of around 30 minutes by car from our Iquitos-based ports.
There are three different room types at the DoubleTree by Hilton Iquitos; guest rooms, suites and accessible rooms. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, wi-fi, flat screen tv, mini fridge, hairdryer and swanky bathroom products. For those who can't stay away from their responsibilities whilst traveling and need the extra space, suites offer extra space to work and relax with larger desks, additional seating areas and separate living area. Accessible rooms feature roll-in showers and wider passageways for uncomplicated wheelchair access, which is integrated throughout the entire establishment. Each room style has one lush king bed or two double beds, with the benefit of full 24-hour room service - anything you could possibly need at the push of a button!
At the DoubleTree Iquitos you will find their amenities include benefits for almost any type of traveler - solo, couples, family or even business travelers (pets are not allowed with the exception of service animals/guide dogs). Options for family comfort include children's activities, cribs and high chairs available on request. Working away from home couldn't be easier as you have full access to the internal 24-hour business center, meetings rooms and printer. However, if you like feeling a little more relaxed and integrated with the world you can take yourself into the downstairs lobby; this place is fantastic and has charging ports all over the place for your gadgets. Winding round to the more sumptuous side of things, you won't believe your eyes when you spot the outdoor pool. A huge, multi-layered, blue heaven just waiting for you to take a dip during the midday sunshine. Now, I won't lie, the weather does fluctuate quite a lot! One second you could be applying your suncream, the next thing you know you're getting out your rain jacket, but thats all part of the fun in Iquitos! So with this in mind, make the most of the pool when you can; even in the evening you will find the temperature quite tropical, just enough to head out into the beautifully lit outdoor area. Multi-lingual staff take care of your needs from the moment you arrive. For me, they kept my luggage safe in the baggage storage area (as I arrived a few hours before check-in), handed me a bag of warm, freshly baked cookies and pointed me in the direction of the lovely lounge area.
Food & Drink
Whilst relaxing in the lounge my eyes drifted slowly but surely drifted over to the bar area. The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere, which is complimented sensibly by the friendly bar and restaurant staff. The menus available contain a range of Western and Peruvian style food and beverages. Wine is sourced mainly from South America, with popular countries like Argentina and Chile in the mix you cant really go wrong. Cocktails range from traditional combinations to Peruvian classics, admiring the destinations ever-favored liquor, Pisco. The restaurant itself is hidden at first glance, but as you look closely through the geometric structure of the hotel, you will find the charming dining area. A lengthy section is transformed for the breakfast service if you choose to take up the inclusive breakfast option. Additionally, you can order your own personal dishes, which come from their sizable menu for either breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even if you don't fancy moving, you can order to your room! Any time of day, any meal you like. The quality of the cuisine is impressive.
The general experience at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Iquitos is fantastic. I found my room was equipped with everything I could possibly need - my favorite element was the gorgeous bathroom and shower area, but not forgetting the great view of the Plaza from my soft king sized bed. Every request I had was addressed with care and confidence. The interior design of the place is magnificent. I loved the geometric art-deco structure, contrasted with Amazonian features and details. I would fully recommend anyone traveling via Iquitos to make a stop in this dreamy, luxury establishment.
