Expert Review: Palacio del Inka Hotel in Cusco
| Expert Advice
With so many beautiful hotel options in Cusco, it can often get overwhelming when trying to find the right hotel for your trip. I recently stayed at the Luxury Collection’s Palacio del Inka Hotel in Cusco, and I had a very enjoyable experience. From location to overall ambiance, this hotel should definitely be on the top of your list for where to stay in Cusco. Read on below to learn why the Palacio del Inka is a first-class heritage experience.
One of the best reasons to stay at the Palacio del Inka hotel is that it’s truly a palace. The building is a restored mansion that dates back 5-centuries. The palace once served as an antechamber for worship of the sun god Inti. Francisco Pizarro’s brother gave the palace to Marquis Juan de Salas y Valdes as a gift after the Spanish conquered the city in 1533. After that it was passed down from one dynastic family to another and eventually become the hotel it is today. Staying here will give you a glimpse of life as a Cusco royal.
When looking for a hotel in Cusco, you will definitely want to find a place that is located near the main square. Exploring Cusco is best done by foot, with so many sites to explore, being walking distance away will save you a lot of hassle. The Palacio del Inka hotel is located in the Historic Center of Cusco, directly across from the famous Koricancha. It’s just a few blocks away from the main square (about a 5-minute walk) and less than a mile away from the cathedrals, museums, markets and restaurants. The only time we had to take a taxi was to the airport, otherwise, everything was talking distance away!
The breakfast at the Palacio del Inka hotel is one of the best reasons to stay there. Breakfast is served downstairs in front of the beautiful courtyard. There is a big selection of food, accommodating to all types of dietary restrictions. They ambiance is beautiful because they often play live music. When we were there, there was a musician playing Andean music on the harp. Besides breakfast there is a very good bar and restaurant downstairs and they also offer 24-hour room service. We explored their private wine cellar, cheese and meat cellar where they have a large variety of wines and cheese/meat pairings.
Gym and Spa
The hotel has both a gym and spa. We tried to book a massage at the spa, but it seemed to have been so popular, there wasn’t any space left. I have stayed at the Palacio del Inka’s sister hotels before, and their spas are top-notch. I can only image that this was is just as good, if not better!
The Palacio del Inka hotel has 203 beautiful rooms that combine Peruvian art and handcrafted furnishings with contemporary amenities-from a signature Luxury Collection bed to state-of-the-art technology, including an LED TV, High Speed Internet Access, and an iPod docking station. The rooms are very comfortable and make you feel like you are really staying in a Peruvian Palace. The room where we stayed had it's own little private balcony, offering beautiful views of Cusco.
