You might think that covering two such big activities in one vacation will make your trip seem a little rushed. Don’t worry, both are very manageable in a two-week vacation – or even ten days if you’re a little short on time. So, how do you do both in one go? Check out our itinerary to see what can expect from what will undoubtedly be the most incredible vacation of your life.
Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley
For the first four days of your trip you will enjoy a whistle stop tour of the Sacred Valley, Cusco and the incredible ruins of Machu Picchu. Cusco and the surrounding region sit at an altitude of almost 11,000 feet above sea level. The air up there is thin so you need to take it easy for the first day or two until you acclimatize.
To get things started you will be taken into the heart of the Sacred Valley and given the chance to explore the towns of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Each has its own set of ruins as well as a local market that sells food, souvenirs, fresh produce, clothes, and more.
On day two you will journey to Machu Picchu by train and spend the day exploring the ancient hilltop citadel before returning back to Cusco. On the third day you will immerse yourself in the cultural heritage and history of this beautiful and deeply spiritual city. The Korichancha temple and Sacsayhuaman ruins are just two of the sights on the itinerary.
At the end of the trip you will say goodbye to Peru and head up north to Ecuador for the second part of your vacation. Now it is time to give your legs a rest and hope on board a cruise ship that will take you around the incredible Galapagos Islands.
The Galapagos Islands
There are a number of different vessels you can choose from to be your home as you explore the Galapagos Islands. Whichever you choose you can be sure that you will enjoy the utmost level of comfort and luxury the entire duration of your journey. All of the boats in our fleet have rooftop pools, sunbathing areas, gourmet dining options, and common areas for relaxing in your down time. The cabins are bright and breezy with modern designs and a wide range of modern conveniences.
During the days, the ship will moor alongside on the edge of the islands and you will disembark for a day of exploration. You’ll get to mingle with sea lions, seals, land and marine iguanas, and giant tortoises as well as a huge number of different birds. As you hike through the volcanic landscape that covers the islands, be sure to keep you eyes peeled for wildlife. Your dedicated naturalist guide will also be able to point out some animals for you.
Once you’ve taken in some of the wealth of wildlife found in this archipelago, it’s time to grab your snorkel and hit the water to see what lies beneath the surface. Get ready to swim among the sharks, rays, turtles, and fish that call the reefs on these islands home. If you have an underwater camera, now is the time to use it.
After exploring the islands for a week or so, your Galapagos and Machu Picchu vacation will come to an end and it will be time to say goodbye to your fellow shipmates. You will have Peru and Ecuador safely under your belt and a whole new chapter of stories to tell your friends when you get back home. This is the definition of trip of a lifetime.
