Nat Geo Islander II

A sleek expedition vessel offering refined and adventurous exploration of the Galápagos Islands.

Overview

Launched in 2022, the National Geographic Islander II brings contemporary elegance to Galápagos exploration. Measuring 280 feet and accommodating just 48 guests, this sleek expedition vessel offers the highest level of intimacy and comfort in the islands, with a remarkable 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio ensuring thoughtful, attentive service throughout your journey.

Life On Board

Life aboard the National Geographic Islander II balances relaxation with discovery. Each of the 26 light-filled suites is a tranquil retreat, with large windows, convertible king/twin beds, a sofa, and a marble bath. The Islander Suites feature spacious living rooms, rain showers, and tubs, while the Santa Cruz Islander Suite offers an ideal family option with a connecting double suite available.

Social spaces are designed for both camaraderie and quiet reflection. The al fresco Patio Café and elegant Yacht Club Restaurant serve sustainably sourced cuisine that highlights regional flavors. Guests gather in the Cove Lounge for expert-led presentations and relaxed cocktails, or take in the views from the forward-facing observation platform. For moments of leisure, there is a plunge pool, sauna, fitness center, and sundeck, all wrapped in sweeping island vistas.

A Science Hub fosters meaningful connections to research and conservation in action, and the ship features two dedicated “Cabins for Conservation Galapagos” which are exclusively reserved for Galápagos community members, local and international researchers, educators and storytellers, to ensure a sense of place remains a vital part of every voyage. Expedition staff include naturalists, certified photo instructors, and an undersea specialist, enriching every excursion with insight and expertise.

Itinerary Options and Highlight Excursions

The Islander II sails year-round, offering a variety of routes that showcase the remarkable biodiversity and geology of the Galápagos. Depending on the itinerary, guests may encounter giant tortoises on Santa Cruz, marine iguanas basking on Española, blue-footed boobies on North Seymour, or volcanic landscapes shaped by centuries of fire and sea.

Excursions are active and immersive, with enough equipment for all guests to explore simultaneously. Glide through turquoise waters by kayak or paddleboard, snorkel with playful sea lions and penguins, or ride in a custom glass-bottom Zodiac for a window into the undersea world without getting wet. On land, guided hikes reveal unique flora and fauna, while evenings on board bring stargazing and storytelling.

An Expedition to Remember

A voyage aboard the National Geographic Islander II is a transformative experience, inviting you to explore one of the planet’s most extraordinary destinations with comfort and purpose. Guests leave with not only memories of rare wildlife encounters and striking volcanic landscapes but also a sense of having connected with a place that has shaped our understanding of evolution and conservation.

This journey is perfect for adventurers seeking intimate, active exploration, families eager to inspire wonder in the next generation, and travelers who wish to combine luxury with discovery. To sail the Galápagos aboard this vessel is to step into a living laboratory of life itself, and to come away forever changed.

North Seymour

AM: On this wildlife-rich small island, follow trails past coastal groups of Galápagos sea lions and marine iguanas inland through a silvery forest of Palo Santo to colonies of magnificent and great frigatebirds, blue-footed boobies, and other seabirds. See land iguanas clambering over rocks in search of cactus and other flowers. Look for swallow-tailed gulls, noddy terns, red-billed tropic birds and Galápagos fur seals on the rocky walls of this small island (like neighboring Baltra), created by not by lava flows geologic uplift. An excellent introduction to the archipelago!

PM: Land on a red sand beach on this volcanically varied island, where we explore inland. We may see flamingos feeding in a brackish lagoon and clownish brown pelicans entertain from their nests. Here is your chance to snorkel or explore by kayak or paddleboard.

Snorkel and Zodiac along the coast, where we might see green turtles, fur seals and even penguins. Keep an eye out for whales and dolphins—the waters here in the west are rich.

PM: Hike over impressive lava past tide pools where young sea lions play and the strange flightless cormorant nests. One of the most active oceanic volcanoes in the world, Fernandina is the youngest, and most pristine island in Galápagos.
