Easter Island & Machu Picchu

An epic tour of South America to see enigmatic Easter Island and majestic Machu Picchu all in one trip.

Overview

Extend your South American odyssey with a curated, bucket-list journey bridging the mystical enigmas of the Pacific with the storied heights of the Andes. This immersive extension invites explorers to delve into the heart of two of the world’s most extraordinary cultural landscapes: the remote volcanic shores of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and the ancient stone wonders of the Inca Empire.

Your adventure begins on the “Navel of the World,” where the legendary Moai stand as silent sentinels over a landscape shaped by fire and tradition. At the Rano Raraku volcano, known as the “factory of the Moai,” you will wander among nearly 400 statues in various stages of carving, frozen in time at the very quarry where they were born.

The journey continues to the celestial Ahu Akivi, a sacred platform where seven Moai face the sunset during the equinox, demonstrating the profound astronomical sophistication of ancient Polynesian navigators. Beyond the statues, you will explore the dramatic heights of the Rano Kau crater and the ceremonial precision of Vinapu, where the stonework reflects a civilization deeply connected to both the earth and the divine.

From the Pacific, you will ascend to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a verdant sanctuary of agricultural ingenuity and colonial artistry. This portion of the voyage is dedicated to exploring the ancient Maras salt mines, a shimmering mosaic of thousands of pools that have been harvested by local families since the time of the Inca. Nearby, the concentric terraces of Moray reveal an Andean laboratory where agricultural research was conducted across diverse microclimates.

The narrative reaches its pinnacle at Machu Picchu, where a scenic rail journey through the Vilcanota canyon leads you to the “Lost City”. Surrounded by jagged peaks and emerald clouds, you will uncover the mysteries of this Seven Wonder of the Modern World alongside expert guides who bring the history of the Inca Empire to life.

Throughout your voyage, every detail is curated to ensure a sophisticated and welcoming experience. You will find sanctuary in the sustainable luxury of the Nayara Hanga Roa (or equivalent) on Easter Island and the tranquil gardens of Casa Andina (or your chosen alternative) in the Sacred Valley. These stays are complemented by bespoke culinary and cultural experiences to create a narrative-rich transition between your chosen cruise and the enduring soul of the South American continent.

Welcome to Chile!

Welcome to Santiago, the capital and largest city of Chile as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. Situated smack bang in the center of Chile’s most densely populated region, Santiago Metropolitan, whose total population is 7 million. Located entirely in the country’s central valley, most of the city lies between 500–650 m (1,600–2,100 ft) above sea level. Founded in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago is rare among South American capital cities in that it has served as the capital city since the colonial occupation.

Downtown and central Santiago is largely made-up of 19th-century neoclassical architecture and winding side-streets, but has smatterings of art-deco and neo-gothic architecture, amongst others. Like many cities in along the Western confines of the continent, Santiago is surrounded by hills as the Andes begin to build behind it. The main river in the city is the fast-flowing Mapocho River, and Santiago is known in South America for being modern, organized, and very safe, as well as a clean, prosperous city with important financial and industrial clout in South America.

Upon arrival, a representative will be waiting to greet you and transport you comfortably from the airport to your hotel.
