Delfin I

A beautiful boutique riverboat offering the most intimate and luxurious of Amazon cruises in Peru.

Overview

The Delfin I takes your holiday in the Amazon a step beyond what you have imagined is possible. This Relais Chateaux boutique ship has just four cabins for a maximum of twelve fortunate guests. Yet, at 67-feet, this is no small boat. With oversized suites and decadent amenities, you will experience the utmost luxury and comfort.

Life Aboard The Delfin I

The smartly appointed interior spaces and suites aboard the Delfin I, featuring warm wood tones and airy fabrics, create an ambiance of casual sophistication. But, you haven’t come to the Amazon to see the interior of a boat. Rather than enclosing you, the Delfin I brings the outdoors in with panoramic windows throughout the ship and private terraces in every suite.

For an extra treat, book a Deluxe Master Suite on the lower deck with a whirlpool on the patio, where you can soak as you cruise down the river. By day, the covered observation deck is the perfect place to watch for wildlife while also escaping the sun. At night, return with a glass of wine and listen to the nocturnal sounds of the jungle.

Excursions From You Delfin I Cruise

Departing from Nauta, both the four- and five-day cruises offer unforgettable experiences, led by an expert naturalist guide, along the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. In the Amazon Natural Park, get a new perspective from the treetop on a canopy walk 85-feet above the rainforest floor. You may also take a skiff ride in the waters of the Amazon basin in hopes of seeing the area’s famous pink river dolphins. In the village of Yachay, which received only a handful of outside visitors, spend time with Carola, the local Shaman. She will speak with you about her role as the spiritual guide and healer for the local community.

You may also have opportunities to visit a local schoolhouse, take night walks in the rainforest, and kayak along the river. The rainforest wakes up early, and a daybreak skiff ride at Las Palmas will introduce you to the many parrots and other bird species in the area. You may even spot a sloth or two. Before you depart, a final visit to the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals is sure to be another highlight of the trip.

Unparalleled Service Aboard The Delfin I

While aboard the Delfin I, you will enjoy a level of service that is simply not possible on a larger ship. While you are out exploring, your suite will be serviced three times each day, so you will always have a fresh space to relax in. In the evening, use the ship’s intercom to request a romantic candlelight dinner for two on your terrace. The boat also has an open-bridge policy, so you can stop by the wheelhouse to chat with the captain and learn about the navigational systems.

With generously-sized suites, five-star cuisine, and a well-stocked bar make the Delfin I an ideal choice for honeymooners and couples celebrating a lifetime of love. Travelers looking to combine the wilds of the Amazon with the highest levels of comfort are sure to delight in the Delfin I.

Las Palmas, Yanaycu Pucate & Amazon Natural Park

AM: On your first morning with us, we recommend getting up early to appreciate one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Never does nature seem more bountiful than in the tropics, and early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun. The early morning hours are the best time of day to watch birds, observe their special displays and listen to their songs. We will jump on the skiffs and head to this area with large trees and old palm trees as well, these components favor the presence of several parrot species. This particular spot also has a great number of other birds of different species. We will look for the famous hoatzins nesting a few feet above the water, and perhaps a sloth or two of the three-toed kind.

You will start cruising through the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, peeking into different creeks and lagoons. This is one of the best-preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Your guide will use his expert eye to pinpoint all the biodiversity of this region. At a height of over 25 meters (85 feet) and extending for 500 meters (one-third of a mile), the Canopy Walkway provides a view of the rainforest from the treetops, the best vantage point for observing Amazon wildlife and vegetation. The Canopy Walkway is accessible to all and requires no special skills or equipment. AM: Onboard our skiffs, you will continue exploring the Amazon Rainforest in search of wildlife. Unique creatures are hanging on the trees and amazing landscape views.

PM: Along the Yarapa River, you will get to explore this tributary intimately. Listen closely to the sounds from within the mysterious jungle. We travel downriver to this wide creek that leads to an attractive hidden lagoon. As we absorb the beauty of the landscape, we will have the chance to reflect on the wildlife. Hawks, terns, herons, and monkeys which are part of our everyday excursions are readily close by; in this area, we will notice many more inhabitants of the Amazon, the rivereños. People being an important part of this complex network only reinforce the fact that we are part of their lives and how our presence here and now could make a difference to the future of this magical land of the Incas. Look out for specific types of Monkeys like the pygmy marmoset, squirrel monkey, and our first Monk Saki. This medium-sized monkey with thick fur and bushy tail looks more like he is dressed for the Arctic than the Amazon.
