Pure Amazon

A state-of-the-art riverboat offering personalized and luxurious adventures in the Peruvian Amazon.

Overview

The Amazon Basin is the biggest tropical rainforest on earth. Realistically, there’s only one way to explore it: by boat; And there’s only one way to explore it, in the highest of style: aboard the Pure Amazon, a state-of-the-art riverboat unique in the region in terms of both comfort and human expertise. A maximum of 22 passengers per cruise (24 on private charters) guarantees an intimate, focused experience, in which every detail is managed by a best-in-class local team.

Life On Board

A Pure Amazon cruise is an experience of refinement and immersion. With discreetly sumptuous interiors by renowned architect Adriana Granato, her elegant social spaces and 12 cabins (10 double suites, two singles) are decorated in muted tones of earth, sky, forest and water, while traditionally patterned Peruvian textiles introduce an element of joyful vibrancy, and panoramic windows throughout offer endless views of the rainforest.

All are are fully air-conditioned and have a minibar and tablets, along with a private bathroom with shower, amenities and hairdryer. Four of the double suites can be connected, creating two sets of interconnecting suites, ideal for families with children. One of the cabins in each pair of interconnecting doubles can also be set up to feature an additional sofabed should triple occupancy be required (children only), so theoretically you could have two dual-suite setups catering to 5 passengers in each, but it is important to note that two other double suites on board can be setup up with triple occupancy, and there is a maximum of two triple occupancy cabins permitted per departure.

Guests are treated to a one-to-one staff-to-guest ratio, ensuring impeccable service. Social spaces include an open-air sundeck with Jacuzzi, a shaded Veranda Lounge bar, and a fine dining restaurant where Peruvian gastronomy takes center stage (children’s menus are available). After a day of exploration, unwind with a cocktail in the Jungle Lounge or with a good book in the Map Room, or indulge in a wellness treatment or some exercise in the spa and gym. Complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi allows guests to stay connected, though the allure of the jungle will keep them captivated.

Itinerary Options & Excursions

The Pure Amazon boat offers three-, four-, and seven-night itineraries, each providing deep access to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. This untouched wilderness, the largest protected flooded forest in the world, is a haven for wildlife, and your viewing chances are maximized with the guidance of expert naturalist guides—a minimum of 1 to every 8 passengers—and complimentary binoculars to use for every passenger.

Morning and afternoon skiff excursions navigate hidden waterways teeming with caimans, monkeys, and vibrant birdlife, while seasonal jungle walks offer encounters with rare flora and fauna. Guests can fish for piranhas, kayak through tranquil tributaries, and visit local communities to gain insight into Amazonian culture. In the evenings, expert-led talks and stargazing sessions bring the magic of the rainforest to life.

Perfect for discerning travelers, nature lovers, and those who crave an exclusive, immersive experience, Pure Amazon redefines luxury exploration in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

Your scenic introduction to the rainforest

AM: If you wish, set out at sunrise (between 5.30am and 6.20am, depending on the time of year) on a birdwatching adventure by skiff in the area around Nauta Caño, a creek known for its wildlife, dense vegetation and mirror-like “blackwater”. This is a hotspot for early-morning bird activity, and you might spot black-collared hawks, flamboyantly colored tanagers and oropendolas – large birds with a long tail which is at least partially bright yellow. After breakfast onboard Pure Amazon, set off by skiff around 9am. This time, you might head to Yanayacu Pucate – one of the most beautiful tributaries in Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, an 8,000-square-mile protected area. Camera at the ready, look out for wildlife which might include squirrel monkeys, tamarins (another small primate) and iguanas, a type of lizard, or try your hand at fishing for piranhas on a catch- and-release basis.

PM: After lunch, wait until 3pm (when the heat begins to subside) before exploring Yanayaquillo – a quiet stream overhung by trees and home to myriad birds and animals. Paddle along its narrow creeks in a double, sit-on kayak, or board a skiff to observe wildlife pointed out by your guide, starting in daylight and ending in darkness. When the light fades, see the reflective eyes of caimans glowing in the beam of a spotlight, or look out for night monkeys and insects. End your evening with a recap of today’s triumphs and a look ahead to the following day, followed by dinner and, weather permitting, stargazing before bed.

Meet the “river people” of Nueva Arica village

AM: Leave Pure Amazon early to visit Nueva Arica – a welcoming riverside village where water levels vary by 30 feet depending on the season. Meet local people, learn how they adapt to life in the low- and high-water seasons, visit their homes and see how A&K Philanthropy is supporting them in the innovative use of forest resources to derive a sustainable income. There are opportunities, too, for kayaking or swimming in calm blackwater with little or no current.

PM: In the afternoon, set out on a guided walk to the Samiria River, known as “the jungle mirror” because its smooth blackwater reflects the forest and sky all around it. On the way, your wildlife guide spots and shows you not just A-lister sloths, monkeys and birds but fascinating flora and smaller animals such as frogs, ants and spiders. Afterwards, return to Pure Amazon for your nightly debrief and a celebratory farewell dinner.
