Zaltana

A luxurious Amazon riverboat offering eco-conscious expeditions deep into the Brazilian Amazon.

Overview

Zaltana was born from an innovative vision to offer a sophisticated, high-level operation in the preserved Brazilian Amazon, proving that the forest can be experienced fully while prioritizing conservation. Combining comfort, nature, and authentic exploration, this unique expedition navigates the blackwater rivers of the Rio Negro, delivering a deeply regenerative immersion into untouched landscapes and providing discerning travelers with an exclusive front-row seat to South America’s most iconic wilderness.

Life On Board

The boutique riverboat offers an intimate journey featuring only 10 panoramic cabins carefully designed to provide comfort, privacy, and a profound connection to the rainforest. The atmosphere on board balances expert-led adventure with personalized service and a relaxed yet elegant ambiance.

The vessel boasts beautifully integrated social spaces, including a panoramic glass dining room where guests gather under cool air conditioning to enjoy gourmet meals. For a more immersive atmosphere, the open-air top deck offers spectacular 360 degree views of the canopy, complete with refreshing deck showers to cool off after an active day. Guests can dive deeper into the region’s secrets in the dedicated lecture and media room, or connect with loved ones using the Wi-Fi available in social areas.

Gastronomy is a cornerstone of the experience, with contemporary regional cuisine connecting authentic forest flavors to unique memories. Included in the full-board stay are all meals, a specialized bartender crafting Amazonian signature cocktails, and a complete selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including wines, beers, cocktails, juices, and soft drinks.

Thoughtful Exploration

The itineraries operated by the Zaltana focus on deep immersion within the remote landscapes of the Brazilian Amazon, featuring the breathtaking Anavilhanas Archipelago as a central highlight. This massive freshwater archipelago contains hundreds of forested islands and mirror-like blackwater lagoons that form an ever changing labyrinth of natural beauty.

Daily explorations are conducted in small, low impact expedition boats equipped with silent electric motors, ensuring guests can glide quietly through flooded forests without disturbing the local wildlife. Guests can look forward to guided jungle walks, rewarding birdwatching sessions, thrilling night excursions, and enriching cultural visits to traditional local communities.

Whether paddling through narrow channels in a kayak, using water bikes, or scanning the trees for monkeys, sloths, and macaws, each excursion is crafted to maximize your connection with the vibrant ecosystem. These all-inclusive journeys are led by expert biologists and bilingual naturalist guides, uniting the observation of fauna and nature with meaningful cultural experiences.

Cabin-Only & Charter Options

The Zaltana operates seasonally from April to July and gives travelers the option to book per person in double or individual cabin configurations, or opt for an exclusive private charter for groups of up to 20 guests. It is an exceptional choice for wildlife enthusiasts, eco-conscious adventurers, and small groups of friends or families seeking a meaningful, slow paced escape that resonates in the soul long after returning home.

Itineraries & Prices

All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion.

Embarkation

AM: Your journey begins in Manaus, where you are warmly welcomed by your host and transferred to the Zaltana Riverboat at Mirante Lúcia Almeida, located in the city's historic center. As you step onboard, the rhythm of the river sets the tone for your voyage. You will settle into your panoramic suite and meet the crew before gathering on deck for a safety briefing and a welcome toast overlooking the magnificent Rio Negro.

PM: As the boat begins its navigation, the vastness of the Amazon gradually reveals itself through shifting light, dark waters, and the first glimpses of wildlife along the riverbanks. Along the way, you will pass the iconic Meeting of the Waters, where the dark waters of the Rio Negro flow alongside the sandy-colored Amazon River without mixing for several kilometers—a stunning natural phenomenon created by differences in temperature, speed, and density. You will then experience one of the unexpected highlights of traveling along the Lower Rio Negro: the opportunity to connect with the ribeirinhos, the traditional communities living along its banks. You will visit a local indigenous family from the Tucano and Desana ethnic groups and learn about their efforts to preserve their cultural heritage, including medicinal plant knowledge and handcrafted traditions, during a short walk around the family's property. After dinner, you are invited to join a Zaltana Expert-Led Lecture, offering deeper insight into the Amazon’s biodiversity, culture, and ecosystems.
