Luxury Sport Fishing in Brazil's Amazon

Captain Logan Luxury Amazon Fishing

Fish for the world's most exciting gamefish in Brazil's Amazon ... in luxury

Peacock Bass in Rio Negro

You don’t have to sacrifice comfort in the pursuit of world-record class Peacock Bass in Brazil’s Amazon!

The Captain Logan offers the finest combination of luxury mobile accommodations, first-class food, hospitable crew, and the most experienced guides on the shallow-draft 95 ft. aluminum-hulled Captain Logan mother boat, while experiencing the best fisheries in Brazil's vast and epic Amazon region.

Starting in Manaus, and then flying by charter plane to further upstream on the Rio Negro, the Captain Logan offers a nine-day itinerary, of which at least six days are spent fishing. The goal during these days is to give anglers the chance to catch as many of the biggest Peacock Bass - as well as Catfish, Piranha and Arapaima - as possible. And then after a hard day's fishing, the ship's kitchen offers delicious food in cosy surroundings, washed down by a beverage or two, followed by a great night's rest.

9-Day Amazon River Game Fishing Itinerary: Captain Logan Luxury Yacht

This nine-day itinerary provides you with six and a half days of fishing for peacock bass and catfish - among other Amazon species - using fast bass boats in abundant, hidden backwaters, with the Captain Logan as a supremely comfortable and secure mother ship.

Your host is American-educated Brazilian national, Leonardo Leao, co-owner of Captain Peacock Expeditions, and he is supported by an excellent crew and guides, who will ensure your fishing trip is both productive and effortlessly comfortable.

Fishery: Rio Negro & Tributaries

Season: August - January.

Day 1: Thursday: Manaus: Arrival
(No included meals)

On arrival in Manaus, we welcome you and take you to your upscale hotel in Manaus.

The rest of the day is free for relaxation from your flight, or exploration of the capital of Brazil's Amazon.

Day 2: Friday: Manaus - Rio Negro
(All meals)

Charter Plane to Upper Rio NegroAfter an early breakfast at the hotel, we transfer to the executive airport for the charter flight to either Barcelos or Santa Isabel, in a turbo-prop multi-engine EMB-110 accommodating up to 18 passengers. The precise destination will be determined by the water level and fishing conditions at the time: the flight time to Barcelos is 75 minutes, and 100 minutes to Santa Isabel.

On arrival, we transfer you to the mother ship, the luxury yacht Captain Logan, moored on the Rio Negro, ready to go. Once settled in, and been introduced to the 18-man crew, we have lunch and then go for a half day's fishing.

The fishing day ends at sunset, around 5:45pm and on return to the yacht, there is an open bar awaiting thirsty anglers, with special appetizers, snacks, and drinks served by our barman-waiter.

Dinner is served daily at 7 p.m. with different entrees, courses, and specials followed by desserts as well as a selection of complementary red and white wines and liquors.

After dinner, the living room and fly bridge areas will be available for relaxation, movies, chat ... and any other activities.

During the night the yacht heads to a better fishing spot, if necessary.

Days 3 - 7: Saturday - Wednesday: Six Full Days of Sport Fishing
(All meals)

The wake-up call is scheduled at 5:15am and breakfast will be served promptly at 5:30am. Our kitchen offers tempting breakfast and packed lunch options; or guests may return to the yacht for lunch, if they prefer.

At 6:15am (about sunrise) anglers are clear to go for a full day of fishing, ending at 5:45pm (about sunset).

The yacht will move to a new area of the river each day to enable anglers to fish new waters, unless the guides determine otherwise, on account of fishing and water conditions.

Day 8: Thursday: Return to Barcelos or Santa Isabel
(All meals)

The schedule is the same as the day before. However, today the yacht will sail back to either Barcelos or Santa Isabel after guests depart for the fishing day.

During the day anglers will fish their way back to the yacht for the night.

Day 9: Friday: Fly to Manaus
(Breakfast)

After breakfast on board, we disembark and transfer to the local city airport for the charter flight (the same type of aircraft) from either Barcelos or Santa Isabel heading back to Manaus,

We arrive in Manaus mid-morning, where you can either transfer directly to your international flight or to a Manaus hotel (included). Please note that clients can book a return flight from Manaus as early as 2pm on this day.

NB. Itineraries are designed to be flexible to accommodate the climactic conditions, river water levels, fishing opportunities and ever-changing flight schedules.

Peacock Bass in Upper Rio Negro, Brazil

The Captain Logan operates in the blackwater Rio Negro system, and the old adage 'big waters means big fish' certainly holds true in Brazil’s Amazon! An angler, Bill Gassman, caught a world record 28lb Peacock Bass in the upper Rio Negro in February 2010 ... while on a trip on the Captain Logan! This was surpassed in November, 2010 in the same region.

This trend is sure to continue as in 2011, the Governor of the State of Amazonas signed a decree that extended the ban on commercial fishing for Peacock Bass on the upper Rio Negro.

Bass Boats in Upper Rio Negro, BrazilOur anglers fish two people with a Brazilian guide in Eagle 176 carpeted bass boats. This is an 18ft model made and designed to run smoothly and dry using efficient Yamaha four stroke 60HP engines. This fully-featured boat combines comfort and convenience like no other. Two livewells, lockable storage for all equipment, and three pedestal locations on the extra large front deck make the Eagle 176 able to deliver more 'fun per fish' than any other bass boat. Drinks, snacks and lunch are carried on the bass boat, so that anglers don't need to interrupt their fishing day.

The guides have many years experience guiding fishermen for Peacock Bass and communicate in English. Four species of Peacock Bass, the huge Catfish the Amazon is known for, Piranha, Arapaima and Arowana are among the more than 2,500 species available to the angler. The Peacock is a favourite amongst anglers on account of their size and aggression.

Experienced Peacock Bass Fishing GuidesMost of the Peacock Bass fishing is done with bait casting and spinning equipment, throwing big top water lures, jerk baits and jigs, with both casting and trolling being effective. Peacock Bass are the fly fisherman's new frontier as they will readily hit big poppers, Dahlberg Divers, Deceivers & Clouser patterns. Fly rods in the 9 or 10 wt class and 35 to 50 lb leaders are a necessity. The Captain Logan provides high-quality Temple Fork (TFO) bait casting, spinning and fly rods on board at no additional costs. With this equipment - and a measure of skill - catches of 50 to 60 Peacock a day are not unusual!
