Passion for the destination

Amazon Sloth

Rainforest Cruises boasts unparalleled passion for their favorite destination: the Amazon River and the remarkable rainforest that surrounds it!

Miles' first encounter with tropical rainforest was not in South America, however. It was in Malaysia, attending a wedding in the Kelabit Highlands, on the island of Borneo, in the early 1990s. Having fired a blowpipe, tried leg-wrestling and won a pig-lifting competition, he was left with the impression that the jungles of the world were pretty exciting places!

This was confirmed with further visits to the rainforests of Central America, while leading tours for an adventure holiday company. However, it was the sheer scope and richness of flora and fauna of the Amazon region that really captured his imagination, when he finally made it to the Peruvian Amazon in the year 2000. Since then, he has had the fortune to visit a number of other Amazon jungle areas, in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia ... as well as elsewhere in Peru.

As for Jeremy, his passion began with a general interest in amphibians, which expanded into a full-blown frog obsession. During his youth, he would often visit Panama, where he became interested in a local species of dart frog known as Dendrobates Auratus. This little green and black poison frog mesmerized Jeremy. After keeping two small frogs for some time, this new hobby grew out of control. His home became a veritable greenhouse, with terrariums filled with numerous species of these colored jewels. The next few years were spent with friends, exploring the remote jungles of Central America in search of amazing critters, most of them poisonous. Jeremy has even played a role in the discovery of a new color variation of his beloved Auratus, in a remote Atlantic rainforest near Panama's Darien Forest.

Moving from Panama to Peru brought about many new opportunities for jungle exploration, finally ending with the creation of Rainforest Cruises. Jeremy's hope is that travelers will enjoy the same exhilaration and sense of discovery aboard their Amazon River cruise as he did when observing his first wild poison frog, hopping happily amongst tropical foliage.

Such is our love for Amazonia, and the experiences gained on an Amazon riverboat cruise, that we decided to dedicate our lives to helping travelers organize and execute life-changing Amazon jungle tours. We specialize in offering the information and value on a wide selection of Amazon River cruises, making your jungle tour planning that much easier.

The range of possible Amazon Rainforest tours is wide, but we have done the hard work of classifying our Amazon cruises into simple categories, for easy review.

Budget Amazon cruises are a great way to enjoy the jungle without breaking the bank. The experience aboard a budget cruise, such as Selva Viva Amazon cruise, is genuine and cozy. This Budget Amazon cruise is equipped with comfortable cabins, kitchen, and dining room and is one of the more flexible cruises. Selva Viva offers a wide range of itineraries from a few days to several weeks, and is small enough that an individual family can charter a cruise just for themselves! Selva Viva is owned and operated by an NGO working throughout the Amazon to enhance conservation and improve the quality of life for local populations. We believe that Selva Viva is the best way to tour the Amazon River on a budget.

Historical Amazon cruises offer unique riverboat experiences with a touch of scientific discovery. Our historical Amazon cruises are aboard “rubber era” boats which have been tastefully restored. The Clavero and the Ayapua, each more than one-hundred years old, offer travelers the opportunity to tour the Amazon in a “Victorian” style common to the Amazon around the beginning of the 20th Century. As travelers cruise down wandering tributaries, surrounded by lush vegetation you will feel the same as the early fortune-seekers eager to find and exploit tropical rubber trees. Our historical Amazon cruises incorporate in-depth tours to Pacaya Samiria led by biologists with decades of experience guiding Amazon tours in Peru and beyond.

Luxury Amazon cruises are a class apart. Designed for the discerning traveler, with a taste for adventure, our luxury Amazon cruises offer lavish accommodations, spectacular dining, and world-class guided tours of the Amazon. Luxury Amazon cruises are expedition style boats allowing for small group experiences. When touring the Amazon, small groups enable superior wildlife observation, enhancing the experience of your Amazon riverboat cruise. The Aqua and the Aria are ultra luxury boats designed to emluate the lavish accommodations of a 5* hotel without sacrificing adventure. The Delfin class boats offer a “boutique” feel heavy in charm and service. Either class of Amazon cruise will provide travelers with an unforgettable luxury cruising vacation tour of the Amazon River.

No matter the cruising style you prefer, Rainforest Cruises will help you find the style that is right for your budget and aspirations. We encourage everyone to enjoy the wonderful experiences an Amazon riverboat cruise can offer, irrespective of the class you choose.
