Kerala Pandaw

A custom-built riverboat offering elegant, immersive journeys through Kerala’s timeless backwaters.

Overview

Kerala Pandaw brings Pandaw’s iconic expedition-river heritage to southern India, offering a rare opportunity to explore the legendary Kerala backwaters in comfort and style. Purpose-built for shallow and narrow waterways, this elegant vessel unlocks a slower, more intimate way of discovering one of India’s most culturally rich and visually serene regions.

Kerala Pandaw is a small, classically styled river ship, designed to echo Pandaw’s colonial-era aesthetic while delivering modern comfort. With polished wood finishes, brass detailing, and wide outdoor decks, the ship evokes the golden age of river exploration—perfectly suited to Kerala’s languid canals and palm-lined lagoons.

Life On Board

Accommodation aboard Kerala Pandaw is thoughtfully designed for relaxed river cruising, with well-appointed cabins featuring large windows that frame constant scenes of village life, rice paddies, and waterways. Public spaces emphasize openness and connection to the landscape, including shaded promenade decks and inviting indoor lounges.

The atmosphere on board is informal yet refined, encouraging conversation and observation as the ship glides slowly through the backwaters. Dining is a highlight, blending local Keralan flavors with international favorites, while the experienced Pandaw crew ensures attentive service and insightful commentary throughout the journey.

Itinerary Options & Highlight Excursions

Kerala Pandaw operates 7-night voyages through the Kerala backwaters of southern India, a vast network of canals, rivers, lakes, and lagoons that have shaped regional life for centuries. Unlike ocean or large-river cruises, these itineraries focus on short distances and deep immersion rather than speed. Built specifically for the backwaters, the vessel’s shallow draft allows it to venture deeper into the region, offering guests a front-row seat to everyday life unfolding along the riverbanks.

Guests explore bustling villages, quiet rural settlements, temples, spice-growing regions, and traditional industries such as coir-making and fishing. The backwaters are also rich in birdlife and tropical vegetation, offering a gentle but rewarding exploration of Kerala’s cultural and natural heritage. Each stop reveals how daily life remains intricately connected to the water.

Travelers wishing to explore more of India’s astonishing waterways may like to consider her longer 18-night ‘combo’ itinerary, which includes two cruises, one aboard Kerala Pandaw on the Kerala Backwaters, and another afterwards aboard one of her sister ships along the Ganges.

For Slow-Travel Enthusiasts

A journey aboard Kerala Pandaw feels like stepping into a slower, more human rhythm of travel—where days are measured by drifting canals, passing villages, and moments of quiet observation. This is not about ticking off landmarks, but about understanding place through proximity and presence.

Ideal for culturally curious travelers, slow-travel enthusiasts, and those seeking a refined yet authentic Indian river experience, Kerala Pandaw offers the rare satisfaction of going where few cruises can—and doing so with grace, comfort, and a true sense of exploration.

Itineraries & Prices

All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion.
