Overview
The Spirit of Lamandau is a charming 59-foot-long and 10-foot-wide traditional Indonesian klotok riverboat, lovingly restored and transformed into a comfortable houseboat. This unique vessel offers an intimate escape for up to six guests, perfect for exploring the wild beauty of Central Kalimantan’s Tanjung Puting National Park. The name klotok comes from the rhythmic klok tok tok sound the boat makes as it glides through the river—a soothing melody of the jungle.
Life On Board
Picture yourself gently rocking to sleep with the soothing hum of the jungle, only to be awakened by the calls of proboscis monkeys and the ethereal flapping of hornbills overhead. As the sun pierces through the morning mist, you’ll sip your coffee on the open-air deck, mesmerized by the shifting colors of the riverbanks.
The Spirit of Lamandau features three cozy, air-conditioned cabins, each with a double bed, reading lights, and a private ensuite bathroom stocked with locally made, eco-friendly soaps from Permakultur. The large windows, fitted with fly screens and sliding shutters, invite the scenery in while ensuring your comfort and privacy.
On the upper viewing deck, unwind on plush rattan furniture and enjoy freshly prepared Asian meals at the dining table. The deck’s clear waterproof roller blinds allow you to savor the view, rain or shine.
Your River Journey
The Spirit of Lamandau cruises through the heart of Tanjung Puting National Park, a sanctuary of tropical rainforests, peat swamps, and blackwater rivers. Here, you’ll witness a stunning array of wildlife—from the iconic orangutans and comical proboscis monkeys to sun bears, clouded leopards, and exotic bird species.
An Immersive Wildlife Escape
Aboard the Spirit of Lamandau, you’ll have the chance to lose yourself in the sights, sounds, and serenity of Borneo’s untamed nature. Whether traveling with family, friends, or a loved one, this cruise promises a soul-stirring connection with one of the planet’s most remarkable ecosystems. Wildlife enthusiasts should consider extending their adventure by combining it with a Komodo Dragon expedition in Eastern Indonesia.
