Rainforest Cruises To Attend Colombia Travel Mart
Rainforest Cruises, in the guise of co-owner Miles Buesst, is excited to be attending the Colombia Travel Mart in Bogota for the first time, from Feb 27th - 28th. Colombia, one of the nine South American nations that contain Amazon rainforest, is emerging as a vibrant and welcoming holiday destination, putting aside the negative imagery of guerrilla warfare and drug barons from the 20th Century, and focussing on the manifold natural and human attractions of the country, including Pacific and Caribbean coastlines, dynamic Colonial cities and the spectacular Andes mountains, as well as the extensive jungle in Amazonia.
As yet, there are no river cruises operating in their Amazon region, but we hope that this may change. And in the meantime, our goal in attending the show is to increase our product knowledge, such as the intriguingly-named 'Amacayacu: River of Hammocks' ... and begin to offer Colombian Amazon lodges and add-on itineraries on our website.
As luck would have it, the Travel Mart ends just as Carnival starts, and the Caribbean city of Barranquilla is known for hosting the world's second largest celebration, behind Rio de Janeiro. It is only a one-hour flight from Bogota, so it would be churlish not to attend the opening night, known as 'The Battle of the Flowers', a six-hour float parade showcasing all the Carnival characters in their colorful, outlandish costumes, accompanied by music, dancing and fire-breathing.
