Sol Y Luna Hotel Review
The hotel itself is conveniently located in Urubamba village around 45 minutes from the main sites to visit in the Valley, such as the salt mines of Maras and the agricultural wonder of Moray, the magnificent Pisac Ruins and Market, as well as fortress of Ollantaytambo and the main train station to Machu Picchu.
My family and I stayed in one of the 43 casitas perched in the garden of the hotel each uniquely decorated by a Peruvian artist. Although we had initially planned to do some more sight-seeing after our arrival to the hotel, we soon decided to fully take advantage of the amenities offered, including a sauna, yoga facility and garden thriving with local flora and fauna. My two boys took possession of the swimming pool, while my wife and I relaxed in the outside (and heated) Jacuzzi enjoying the amazing scenery around us.
There are the superior casitas for couples and family, as well as the deluxe and premium casitas which are great options if you are planning to spend an additional day or two to fully appreciate the splendor and elegance of these upgraded rooms or if you are on your (second) honeymoon.
The main restaurant of the hotel, Killa Wasi, is also very nicely decorated and offers a fire-place for the more chilly evenings or an outside terrace to enjoy the morning sun while indulging yourself with one of the best breakfasts I have had in Peru thus far. All home-made products and fresh-juices with a hint of the French ownership of the hotel; we are still talking about the incredible French Toast!
After the breakfast the staff of the hotel invited us to go horse riding on the famous Peruvian ‘El Paso’ horses owned by the hotel. The hotel owns a hacienda which is located on the spacious compound of the hotel. Here is where the hotel organizes the horse shows with the El Paso horses, as well.
Staying at the hotel does not only support your own personal well-being, but number of important project in Urubamba village itself as well. The hotel was actually started to support the owner’s education initiatives in a sustainable manner. The revenue from the hotel support the running of the Sol y Luna Intercultural School, as well as four foster homes, and offer employment to members of the local community. On the Sol Y Luna website you will be able to find more information on this social responsibility projects of the hotel. My two boys has an excellent time, which made it very easy for me and my wife to fully unwind and relax as well. It is easy to understand why the hotel is a member of Relais and Chateux and Virtuoso. I would be happy to tell you more about my fabulous stay at this hotel. All you need to do is contact us or call 1-888-215-3555.
