This great three-night adventure takes passengers along the Marañon River and into the wildlife-rich Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, providing a beautiful view of life in the Amazon and its wealth of exotic inhabitants.
During the day, fish for piranha, spot sloths and monkeys in the canopies, and relish in the comforts of the spacious social areas of the Perla. At night, go stargazing on the top deck, and listen to the sounds of the jungle!
This itinerary may vary depending on the weather and seasons that control the water level in the rivers and the wild life cycle to protect its natural habitat. All times are approximate and subject to change.
Day 1: SUNDAY
Iquitos - Nauta - Amazon River - Jungle Walk
Early this morning we will be met and greeted at Iquitos Airport by the friendly Perla staff, before proceeding on a 1.5-hours bus transfer to our private pier in the port town of Nauta, where we will get on board.
After checking-in we will have lunch on board and a brief orientation about what lies ahead on your Amazon adventure, as the Perla begins sailing down the Marañon River to the confluence of Marañon and Ucayali River where the Amazon River starts.
This afternoon we will get our first taste of the flora and fauna of the region close up as we walk along the shores of the Ucayali River, located in the Yucuruchi region of the Amazon. Here we will have an opportunity to see the Victoria Regias water lily, a gigantic aquatic plant. Continuing on our way, we visit the Samiria River to look for charapas and turtles.
After returning to the ship we will receive an interesting lecture by one of our naturalist guides, followed by a welcome reception with live music on board.
Dinner on board.
Day 2: MONDAY
Yanacu of Pucate - Canopy Walkway - Shaman Ceremony - Nauta Caño
After an early morning wake-up call we will head out for a picnic breakfast in the Pacaya Samiria Natural Reserve itself! We will look for a nice spot in middle of the reserve to enjoy our healthy breakfast, as pink dolphins play all around us. With our camera and personal batteries charged, we will explore the Yanayacu of Pucate Basin together in search of magestic blue and yellow macaws, toucans and many monkey species including howler monkeys, monk sakis and more.
Later we visit the Amazon Natural Park where a canopy suspension bridge and viewing platform experience awaits. From this unique perspective we will be able to search for the abundant treetop wildlife and enjoy spectacular views of the rainforest.
Returning to the ship we get prepared for another unique experience, swimming with the pink dolphins!
After another delicious lunch on board we'll head to the village of San Regis for a Shaman Ceremony. Discover the mystical realm of this village doctor and learn some of the ancients secrets of the rainforest.
As part of the visit we will also partake in a tree planting ceremony to help with the sustainability efforts in the village.
This evening there will be a reception on board with live music for entertainment once more, followed by dinner.
Tonight we embark on a night-time skiff ride to Nauta Creek in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve to see the rainforest come to life.
Day 3: TUESDAY
Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Shiriyacyu Stream - Kokama Community
After breakfast we try our hand (not literally of course!) at piranha fishing on a black water stream named Shiriyacu at San Jose de Zarapanga, using traditional equipment and local techniques. How many can you catch?
After lunch on board there'll be a cooking demonstration, followed by a geographic orientation by our naturalist.
Later we visit Prado Kukama Indian village to learn about their traditions and culture, getting a glimpse into the way of life of this riverside community.
In the late afternoon we take a boat excursion to observe one of the most spectacular sights in the rainforest, the sunset on the Amazon River, as we wait for the nightlife to begin their symphony. During this excursion we will look for caimans, frogs, tarantulas, snakes and anacondas.
As we return on board, there will again be a reception with live music and tonight we enjoy a crew presentation and farewell dinner as the ship sails down to Nauta town.
Day 4: WEDNESDAY
Nauta - Iquitos
After breakfast on board we check out and take the bus back from Nauta Town to Iquitos.
En route we will visit the Manatee Rescue Center to see the remarkable work the keepers are doing to help the endangered Amazon Manatee. You may even get chance to feed the baby calves!
Afterwards there will be a brief panoramic city tour around Iquitos to see the famous houses dating from the rubber time era, such as Iron House, Belen Market and more.
We arrive at Iquitos Airport just before midday in time to board your outgoing flight.
