Expert Review: Hotel Villa Amazonia in Manaus

  |   Hotels

In April 2018, I travelled to the city of Manaus to board the Tucano Amazon Cruise. I arrived the day before to have time to explore Brazil’s jungle city. I wanted to stay in a hotel that was close to the historic city center, nearby the Amazonas Opera House and somewhere that was modern, yet preserved the history of the surrounding area. The Villa Amazonia hotel was just that, and much more.

Hotel Villa Amazonia

The Villa Amazonia is a new, boutique-style hotel located in the historic center of Manaus, just a few steps from the Amazon Opera House. The building, reception area and restaurant preserve the design of a restored historic mansion that dates to the golden rubber age. The interiors are beautiful, especially the wooden floors representing the famous Meeting of the Waters (dark-colored wood next to light-colored wood).

The hotel has 30 exclusive rooms, all facing a jungle-inspired indoor garden and a natural stone pool. The spacious rooms have a modern and sophisticated design, and include a bathtub, balcony, special linen, convenient amenities and a whole infrastructure of equipment and services offered by the most premium hotels. There are three categories of rooms: Standard, Superior and Premium. The Superior and Premium rooms are fit to accommodate an extra bed for children.

The hotel also offers a fully equipped gym room with a view of our garden and an outdoor swimming pool, where guests can escape from the heat of the jungle. After a long day exploring the city of Manaus, the pool area is the place to be.

FITZ- Carraldo Bistro and Breakfast

The Villa Amazonia has its own restaurant, the FITZ- Carraldo Bistro. Open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it counts on an informal ambience and contemporaneous cuisine, mixing the international classics with the Amazon’s exotic ingredients. The menu has a variety of meals, including vegetarian options.

The Bar with a view to the Pool offers special caipirinhas, selected wine and light dishes to be ordered at any time. It is without a doubt one of the most pleasant places in the city.

For hotel guests, breakfast is served from 6:30 to 10:00, in the historic hall of Fitz-Carraldo Bistro. Breakfast includes a variety of artisan breads, eggs, pancakes, fruit, cereals, cold cuts, cakes, juices and some regional specialties.
